For Human Rights Day 2017, the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) asks you to stand up for Uyghur rights by recording a message of solidarity to the United Nations website.
This year, the United Nations has created a dedicated page for individuals to post their support for human rights. Click on this link (https://www.un.org/en/udhr-video/registration.shtml), enter your name, language, the Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) you wish you highlight, your country, and email. Then, click “Record” and follow the instructions to register your message.
“By recording a message of support for the fundamental human rights of the Uyghur people, individuals can let Beijing know that the plight of the Uyghur people is not forgotten. China hopes it can avoid meaningful discussion of its poor record on political, economic, and cultural rights in East Turkestan and this tool is an opportunity for concerned individuals to tell Xi Jinping that denial of human rights contravenes international standards of behavior,” said UHRP Director Omer Kanat.
The annual December 10 commemoration of the adoption of the UDHR (in English, Uyghur, Chinese) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948 is a reminder of the indivisibility of human rights and of government obligations to meet international human rights standards.
