The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a ban on the entry to the United States of products produced by Esquel Group, one of the world’s largest textile and apparel companies, over allegations it uses forced Uyghur labor.
That Hong Kong-based company and related firms were added to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List over allegations it is using cotton from the Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China.
“We welcome the ban on entry of products allegedly produced with material supplied by Uyghur forced labor and hope other nations will take similar actions to push back against the Chinese government’s genocidal actions in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Hooper added that last month, CAIR welcomed DHS banning two Chinese companies over their reported use of Uyghur slave labor.
He noted that CAIR has previously welcomed the banning of Chinese companies using slave labor.
