February 5, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party have nominated the Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) and freedom of expression advocate Li Ying, known on social media as "Teacher Li," for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination comes in recognition of CFU and Teacher Li’s unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and the protection of the Uyghur people against genocide and repression.

We are honored to nominate Campaign for Uyghurs and Teacher Li for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their tireless efforts in advocating for the rights and dignity of people worldwide,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “In the face of one of the most pressing human rights crises of our time, Campaign for Uyghurs and Teacher Li continue to shine a light in the face of adversity, while challenging injustices and amplifying the voices of those too often silenced."

The Campaign for Uyghurs and Teacher Li represent humanity's unwavering stand against the CCP's brutality – not only exposing systematic oppression, but empowering countless others to speak truth to power,” said Chairman Moolenaar. “Through tireless advocacy and bold testimony, the Campaign for Uyghurs has ensured the world cannot ignore the truth about the Uyghur genocide, bringing victims' voices to the global stage and shattering the CCP's wall of silence. Meanwhile, Teacher Li has become a vital lifeline for free expression, courageously breaking through China's Great Firewall to shed light on citizens' protests despite grave personal risk. We are incredibly proud to nominate both for the Nobel Peace Prize honoring two extraordinary forces for truth and justice.

“This nomination is not just a recognition of CFU’s work, but a call to action for the world,” said Rushan Abbas, Founder & Executive Director, Campaign for Uyghurs. “The Uyghur genocide is not a distant issue—it is ground zero for some of the greatest threats to humanity today, from digital authoritarianism to forced labor and transnational repression. We accept this honor with humility, hoping it brings renewed attention to the plight of Uyghurs and compels governments, institutions, and individuals to stand against these atrocities before it is too late. We are profoundly grateful for this recognition from Chairman John Moolenaar and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi, whose steadfast leadership and solidarity continues to cast an unyielding light on these grave human rights violations.”

Winners of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in October 2025 by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, Norway, and awarded on December 10, 2025.
