Turkistan Times, 24 May 2025 – The Third East Turkistan National Summit and the International Uyghur Youth Summit, organised by the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) in partnership with 21 organizations, are currently underway in Munich, Germany from May 23 to 25. Asia News International (ANI) first reported on the summit on May 21, and the event has now officially commenced, serving as a critical moment for the Uyghur movement amid escalating global challenges.
As highlighted by the WUC, the summit addresses China's growing campaign of transnational repression and global disinformation efforts aimed at concealing the reality in East Turkistan. With over 100 attendees from more than 22 countries, including more than 50 Uyghur organisations, human rights advocates, politicians, academics, and community leaders, the summit represents a powerful moment of unity and strategic coordination.
The summit also features the first International Uyghur Youth Summit, which brings together over 50 youth activists from across the globe who have demonstrated strong commitment to grassroots organizing, political advocacy, and cultural preservation.
Focusing on intergenerational dialogue and collective strategy-building, the Youth Summit emphasizes non-violent resistance, truth-telling through storytelling, and the enduring strength of Uyghur identity. Workshops, discussions, and cultural exchanges allow participants to reflect on peaceful organizing and strengthen their shared commitment to the Uyghur cause in the face of systemic repression.
Both summits aim to assess the current state of the Uyghur freedom struggle and collaboratively shape the next steps in pursuit of justice, human rights, and accountability.
According to updates shared on the World Uyghur Congress's X (formerly Twitter) account, distinguished guests at the event include U.S. Congresswoman Young Kim, Markus Rindersbacher (Vice President of the Bavarian Parliament), Canadian MP and Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet, Czech Senate Vice President Jiri Oberfalzer, and Ukrainian Nobel Laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk. Some have sent powerful video messages of solidarity.
The WUC continues to call on the international community, civil society, and the media to support this vital initiative and stand with the Uyghur people in their ongoing struggle for dignity, freedom, and democracy.
