UK Parliamentarian Condemns China's Oppression of Uyghurs, Calls for International Action

Turkistan Times – London, May 26, 2025: According to a report by "The Tribune" newspaper, Baroness Helena Kennedy, a member of the UK House of Lords, Director of the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute, and a renowned human rights lawyer, in a video message sent to the 3rd East Turkistan National Council and Uyghur Youth Council held in Munich, Germany, strongly condemned China's oppression of Uyghur Muslims in East Turkistan as "crimes against humanity" and called on the international community to take action to end this repression. She also criticized the international community's silence, which she said continues to enable Beijing's repressive policies.

Baroness Kennedy highlighted atrocities committed by China against Uyghurs, including mass detentions, forced labor, torture, forced sterilization and forced abortions, family separations, and the destruction of Uyghur culture. She emphasized that these places are effectively "punishment camps" and that these acts constitute a "systematic, state-sponsored effort to eradicate a people and their way of life." She further stated: "The voices of those who have suffered and those who campaign on their behalf must be heard. These injustices must end... The world must say loudly and clearly, 'This cannot continue!'"

The report notes that China's ongoing human rights violations against Uyghurs in East Turkistan include mass detention, surveillance, cultural repression, the imprisonment of thousands of Uyghurs in "re-education camps," forced labor, forced sterilization, religious restrictions, and the destruction of mosques. The Chinese government denies these accusations, claiming these actions are "counter-terrorism measures."

Currently, many human rights organizations and various governments are accusing China of "crimes against humanity," with some even labeling it "genocide." This situation is causing widespread international outrage and increasing calls for accountability.
